The Wedding Aftermath
Posted on May 11th, 2011 at 4:35 pm by nelizondo

Way before Prince William and Catherine shared their first kiss on the balcony at Buckingham Palace, fashion designers and wedding planners were taking notes on every detail. They knew that whatever the Duchess of Cambridge had from the dress to the decorations would become an instant hit in the bridal world. The royal family has proved yet again that it’s rather good at weddings. At marriage, however, it sucks. While it was a safe bet that the nuptials of Prince William and Catherine Middleton would come off without a hitch, it’s an open question whether their lifelong union will be quite as silky. The now Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding gown has been hailed a perfect tribute to Alexander McQueen. But the design, by the late designer’s protégée and successor Sarah Burton, also pays homage to another princess bride. Indeed Kate’s vintage headwear was from an era that preceded Princess Grace’s marriage the 1936 diamond ‘Halo’ tiara by Cartier was  her ‘something borrowed’, on loan from the Queen. The comparison reveals how very classic Kate’s style is, and how timeless Princess Grace’s bridal look was. A beautiful, elegant but most importantly original wedding dress that was undoubtedly not a copy of any other royal/celebrity style. Catherine’s wedding gown was unique in it’s own right. How totally wrong to call the design a copy. A total slap in the face of the talented British designer, Sarah Burton, to suggest otherwise.

Kate Middleton: Princess to Be…
Posted on April 28th, 2011 at 5:17 pm by nelizondo

The 29 year-old fiancée of Prince William has stayed true to her nature and style over the years. Will she break the royal wedding dress tradition or will she stay true to its practical style that holds a very long tradition. Wedding traditions are as old as wedding ceremonies themselves, It is a tradition for the royal bride (and brides everywhere), to wear a white wedding dress. This wedding tradition of wearing white wedding gowns actually began with the royal family’s Queen Victoria in 1840. Past British royal brides have worn white silk dresses with antique lace. The upcoming royal wedding of Prince William to Kate Middleton will be the wedding of the century. It is  predicted that the soon-to-be princess, Kate Middleton, will incorporate something old and something new and something blue. Royal wedding gowns are more about tradition, symbolism and pageantry than they are about fashion statements. While many brides now choose strapless dresses, this would be improbable if not impossible, for a royal bride. Though we all must wait to see what dress she will wear on the day of her wedding (April 29th, 2011) but rest assured it will be a sight to see.
